If your central vacuum isn't working properly, it might be time to call for repairs. It's not uncommon for central vacuums to break down from time to time. If you're not sure what to look for, you might not know when it's time for repairs. If you're not sure how to troubleshoot your central vacuum system, read the list below. If you're dealing with any of the issues described here, it's time to call for repairs.

The Inlet Valve Stopped Working

If your inlet valve has stopped working, don't panic. There are a few reasons why the inlet valve might stop working. The first thing you should do is try another inlet valve. If the hose works in another inlet valve, there's a problem with the first valve. If the hose doesn't work in any of the inlet valves, check the circuit breaker. If the breaker isn't blown, your vacuum system needs repairs right away.

The Vacuum Hose Lost Suction

If your vacuum hose has lost suction, there could be a simple explanation. You could have a clog in the hose. Or, the dirt canister could be full. Before you call for repairs check the hose and the canister. If those aren't the problem, you'll need to call for repairs. Loss of suction could mean that the dirt canister is broken. If that's the case, you won't get any suction until the canister gets repaired.

Air is Leaking From the Hose

If you can hear air leaking from the hoses, it's time to take a closer look. The first thing you should do is check all the inlet valves. Air leaks can happen when more than one hose is plugged into the central vacuum system. If that's not the problem, check the hoses for cracks. Cracks can let air escape from the hose. If you can't find any reason for the air leak, call a repair company right away. The air leak could be caused by a damaged inlet valve cover. If that's the case, you'll need to take care of repairs as soon as possible.

No Power to the System

If you've lost power to your central vacuum system, it might not be time to call for repairs yet. Before you call for repairs, check the main switch. It's not uncommon for the power switch to get pushed to the off position. If that's not the issue, check the circuit breaker. If you still don't have power to the central vacuum system, call your repair service. There's a chance that the relay switch has broken on the main motor. If that's the case, you'll need to get that repaired or replaced.
